Principles of Project Management

Course Summary

This course introduces modern techniques for planning, scheduling, reporting, controlling and managing projects.

PRINCE2 terminology is used throughout, although no prior knowledge of PRINCE2 is assumed.

Particular emphasis is given to the methodology of the project planning process, including creating the Product Breakdown Structure, a key discipline in project management.

Risk & Contingency, Team Structures & Responsibilities, Resource Allocation & Scheduling, Budgeting & Cost Control, and Effective Reporting are also examined.

Benefits

By the end of the course the participants will be familiar with the key tools and people concepts of project management, thus enabling them to be more effective within their own projects.  The course breaks Project Management down into two main areas of Planning and Control.  Participants adopt a structured approach to planning a project, from initial concept through to a risk assessment of the plan.  In addition participants identify the importance of project control as a means to contain cost and to remain within timescale.  Participants gain skills they can use immediately in their current role.
