ISEB Data Management Essentials

Data Management professionals wishing to implement a standard approach to their work and Database Administrators wishing to widen their Data Management skills.

Data Management staff wishing to work towards a professional qualification in their area of expertise.

Many organistions see Knowledge Management as a central competency and underpinning this is the integrity of the full range of data resources.  This can include databases, web sites, intranets, data warehousing applications and multi-media applications.  Data Management is the corporate service that assists the provision of these information systems by controlling and co-ordinating the definition and usage of reliable and relevant data. This course provides best practice approaches drawing on the ITIL Software Asset Management processes.

The course provides delegates with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively in the Data Management function within an IS department and is based on the syllabus for the ISEB Certificate in Data Management Essentials.

Successful delegates will be able to:

• Act as members of a Data Management team within an organisation
• Implement an industry standard "best practice" approach to their Data Management work
• Understand the roles and skills required in database administration, data administration and respository administration
• Contribute to Technology Direction Evaluation
• Aid in the construction of a Data Charter
• Practice basic data administration, database administration and repository administration skills
• Develop procedures for managing an organisation's corporate data resource.

Delegates will be trained in the syllabus for the ISEB Certificate in Data Management Essentials.

Significant Data Management experience is not required.

Delegates are expected to have some background in IT development (with practical experience of 'data' issues).

The course prepares delegates to take the multiple choice ISEB Certificate in Database Management Essentials exam.

This exam may or may not be incorporated on the final afternoon of the course.  See the course outline when you select a specific course venue and date.

The format for the examination is a one hour (open book) written examination, primarily based on a business scenario with 15 minutes reading time.
