ISEB Requirements Engineering - 3 days

Business analysts and systems analysts who are responsible for defining requirements.

Others who work closely with the analysts in this activity such as business users and managers involved in the elicitation, analysis and validation of requirements.

Technical staff who will be responsible for implementing and testing the requirements; they will need to understand and be involved in the requirements definition process, checking that the requirements satisfy business and user needs.

Well defined requirements form a firm foundation for successful projects and the resulting operational systems. Conversely, many projects fail as a result of inadequately defined requirements. The skill sets covered by this course will improve your chances of successful project delivery.

Successful delegates will be able to:

• Describe the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the requirements engineering process
• Demonstrate the application of a range requirements elicitation techniques
• Explain the use of requirements elicitation techniques and the relevance of the techniques to given situations
• Document and prioritise user requirements for an information system
• Identify problems with requirements and explain how requirements documentation may be improved
• Create a process/function model of requirements for an information system
• Interpret a model of the data requirements for an information system
• Explain the importance of linking project objectives and requirements to the Business Case
• Describe the principles of Requirements Management and explain the importance of managing requirements
• Describe the use of CASE tools to support Requirements Engineering
• Explain the principles of Requirements Validation and define an approach to validating requirements

Delegates will have covered the syllabus for the ISEB Certificate in Requirements Engineering.

However, it is recommended that delegates first attend the ISEB Business Analysis course.

On completion of this course delegates may wish to sit for the ISEB Certificate in Requirements Engineering. The format is a one hour, written, open book exam with 15 minutes reading time.

The Certificate counts towards an ISEB Diploma in Business analysis.
