Course: ISEB Freedom of Information
Course Summary
This course follows the latest ISEB syllabus and prepares delegates for the ISEB Certificate in Freedom of Information examination.
The BCS-ISEB Certificate is based upon all aspects of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Freedom of Information Scottish Act (FOISA), the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) and the Records Management code of practice.
The need to understand complex exemptions and where to apply the public interest test is critical at a time when the culture of secrecy within the public sector is being transformed to one of disclosure and openness.
This course is ideal for those having FOI responsibilities within their organisation. This includes FOI and DP practitioners, IG Managers, Records Managers, Information Asset Owners, Lawyers, Auditors, Librarians, Archivists and Communications Managers.
The aim of this qualification is to promote an in-depth understanding of how Freedom of Information works in practice.
The program places compliance in the context of good information and records management processes, rather than focusing on legal requirements.
On attaining the Certificate, award holders will possess an appreciation of Freedom of Information in its widest context, as well as understanding the key differences between FOIA and FOISA.
Delegates will be able to demonstrate with confidence links to associated legislation such as the Public Records Act, the Data Protection Act and Environmental Information Regulations.
Award holders will also be able to develop practical procedures for the processing and monitoring of a request for information through to the application of exemptions to access and the public interest test.
Delivery is by a highly experienced specialist - with emphasis on delegate interaction and engagement.
The course price includes the 5 day course, an additional exam preparation day and the exam fee.
The price also includes a comprehensive training and reference manual.
The exam is taken separately from the course on dates each quarter determined by the ISEB.
Accommodation in the nearby Moor Place Hotel is available (£300+vat for 4 night's dinner, bed & breakfast). Please let us know your requirements when booking.
