Analysts, designers and any others who need to model business systems using structured techniques.

Those wishing to attain the ISEB Certificate in Systems Modelling Techniques (Structured version).

This course provides delegates with a framework and proven set of techniques to use when specifying IT systems.

Learning Objectives

Successful delegates will be able to:
  • Justify the need for modelling and modelling techniques
  • Explain why it is important to model system requirements from different perspectives and identify specific modelling techniques
  • Construct a static structure model (eg entity-relationship diagram)
  • Construct a process model (eg data flow diagram)
  • Construct a simple dynamic event driven model (eg entity-lifecycle diagram)
  • Construct a simple user interface model (eg web site navigation model)
  • Evaluate how the various models reflect business objectives and system requirements (eg via critical success factors)
  • Appreciate how the various perspectives inter-relate to each other

An understanding of the fundamentals of systems development, or attendance of the ISEB Systems Development course.

    At the end of the course delegates may sit the ISEB certificate in Systems Modelling Techniques.  Delegates generally need to separately book this exam (see detailed course outlin when you have selected a specific date). The format is a one hour, written, open book exam based on a business scenario with 15 minutes reading time.

    This certificate contributes towards ISEB Diploma in Systems Development, and is also a specialist practitioner module for the ISEB Business Analysis Diploma.
